Simple Ways to Experience Good Health by Min. Patricia D. Samuels, MA

Good Health

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. III John 2

Fruit for Breakfast

There are several things that I have found to be helpful in the area of good health which are not very cumbersome.  One thing I do is eat only fruit or raw vegetables before noon.  Of course, on special occasions, I will have a more traditional breakfast of bacon, eggs, and pancakes, but not on a daily basis.  The word “breakfast” means to “break” the “fast” that you have been on since dinner the night before.  For those of you accustomed to fasting, you know that fruit and juices are the best ways to end a fast.  Another reason to eat fruit and vegetables in the morning is that they are easily digestible and therefore, provide quick energy.  Your body can retrieve the energy from the nutrients faster.  Eating this way will also help you lose weight quickly.  You could easily lose 3-5 lbs. in a week after eating this way.  The reason is, by eating quickly digestible foods in the morning, you give your body a chance to work on the harder-to-digest foods from your other meals.

I have been practicing the “fruit for breakfast” regimen for several years and it definitely helps to slenderize.  More importantly, it helps to get your system healthy, which will help you live a longer life.  I first heard of this suggestion after hearing the testimony of Dr. Betty Price.  Dr. Price is the wife of Apostle Frederick K.C. Price of Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles, California.  Dr. Betty Price was stricken with cancer, which she battled and overcame.  After her ordeal, she wondered why and how she got cancer in the first place.  After seeking the Lord, she discovered that her eating habits gave place to the devil in bringing this disease on her.  Prior to her overcoming the cancer, she rarely ate fruits and vegetables and also, rarely drank water.  Instead of water, she drank coffee, sometimes ingesting nine cups per day.  These habits caused her digestive system to not function properly.  Her meals, because of the excessive coffee, were pushed through her system too quickly for proper digestion.  Her body was unable to obtain the necessary nutrients from her food and ultimately, the toxicity of her body brought on cancer.  Interestingly enough, it is not always the devil alone that brings on cancer, diabetes, and hypertension.  Often we have opened a door for him to afflict us.  It is time we shut those doors.

Colon Cleansing

In keeping with this, I also suggest that you incorporate colon cleansing into your nutrition regimen.  Most of my life I have been thin, but once I hit my thirties, I began to thicken.  At first I thought that this was nice because when I was younger I always wanted to be bigger.  However, my excess weight did not go to the areas where I wanted it to go.  It went straight to my midsection, making me look as though I were pregnant.  I thought, “Oh, no!  I haven’t even had a baby.  This stomach has got to go.”  I prayed about the situation and specifically asked God for “lines and curves.”  I said, “Father, I need lines where there should be lines and curves where there should be curves.”  I did not want a curve in my midsection unless there was a little one growing in there.  Well, long story short…  Several months after this prayer, with not much change in sight, I learned what my problem was.  A nutritionist did a seminar at our church and from her I learned that a lot of weight is actually waste material that our bodies have failed to eliminate.  I learned that if a person is relatively thin, but heavy in the midsection, it is a dead giveaway to needing colon cleansing.  Our colons (intestines) sit just behind our navels and if they are overloaded, they will push forward, causing us to have a “big stomach.”  At any rate, I began the cleansing program the nutritionist recommended and within a few weeks, saw my midsection shrink.  Finally, a “line” and not a “curve.”  Thank God.

Water

In addition to colon cleansing, as suggested above, you should drink lots of water.  Our bodies are 70% water.  Because we are largely made of water, everything in our body – our cells, tissues, blood – depends upon water for proper functioning.  If we deprive our bodies of water, we will not operate at our best and will open the door for sickness and disease.  It is recommended that we drink 48 oz. – 64 oz. (6-8 cups) per day.  I know that this sounds like a lot of water, but it really is not.  I have found that when I get a certain hamburger  combo, it comes with a 32-oz. drink.  I have also found that I have no trouble consuming this big drink.  When I thought about it, I realized that 8 cups of water was only two of these burger-drink cups per day.  So, I decided to save these cups and use them for my water.  I have found that drinking one of these during the morning and one during the afternoon works well for me.  Of course, you do not have to be limited to the burger-drink cup.  Some find drinking bottled water from bottles listing the number of ounces works better for them.  Others prefer to drink from a nicer glass.  It is up to you.  Just make sure that you get your water.  Trust me, you will get used to it and start to love it.  You will especially love the way it makes you feel and look.  You will feel more energetic and your skin will have a healthy glow.

Exercise

As far as exercising is concerned, what I have found to be best for me is simply walking.  If you are an exercise enthusiast and love the gym scene or the videos, that is fine.  In fact, I also get into those things sometimes.  However, walking through my neighborhood or in the park, has been the easiest for me.  It has been the one exercise that I have been able to be faithful to.  So, if you are someone who cannot even remember the last time you thought about exercising, try walking.  Start by walking to the mailbox, then to the corner, then around the block, then around the neighborhood.  Once you are going around the neighborhood, try to do this for approximately 30 minutes, 2 – 3 times per week.  This, too, will give you energy and it will also help you look better.

I count not myself to be a fashion/beauty consultant, nutritionist, or physical fitness expert.  However, these are some of the things that have worked for me.  I suggest you try them and also do further research in these areas until you find what works for you.  It will work if you work it!
